Care Guide
How to Keep Your Flowers Fresh
Every Bana Florist order includes personalised care instructions. Follow these tips to maximise the beauty and longevity of your flowers.

General Care Tips
Trim Stems
Cut 1–2 inches off each stem at a 45° angle before placing in water. Do this under running water or in a bowl to prevent air bubbles from blocking water uptake.
Fresh Water Daily
Change the water every 1–2 days. Add the flower food packet included with your order: it contains nutrients and an antibacterial agent that significantly extends life.
Cool Temperature
Keep flowers in a cool room, away from direct sunlight, heat vents, and appliances. Flowers last longest in temperatures between 65–72°F (18–22°C).
Indirect Light
While flowers need some light, direct sunlight causes them to dehydrate quickly. Place them in bright, indirect light for the best balance.
Away from Drafts
Avoid placing flowers near air conditioning vents, fans, or draughty windows. Ethylene gas from ripening fruit also accelerates flower ageing: keep them separate.
Remove Spent Blooms
As individual flowers wilt, remove them to prevent bacteria from spreading to healthy blooms. Re-trim stems every 2–3 days to maintain water uptake.
Care by Flower Type
Roses
Remove guard petals (the outer, slightly damaged petals): they protect the bloom during transit. Trim 2 inches off stems and change water every 2 days. Roses last 7–14 days with proper care.
Lilies
Remove pollen-bearing anthers to prevent staining and extend bloom time. Lilies open sequentially: enjoy the show over 1–2 weeks. Keep away from pets (toxic to cats).
Peonies
Peonies arrive partially closed and open over 2–4 days. If they're slow to open, place in warm water in a warm room. Remove lower leaves to prevent bacterial growth.
Tulips
Tulips continue to grow in the vase: trim them regularly to prevent drooping. They prefer cool water and a cool room. Remove leaves below the waterline.
Sunflowers
Sunflowers are thirsty: change water daily and re-trim stems. They are sensitive to cold, so avoid refrigeration. Last 7–12 days with proper care.
Orchids
Potted orchids: water weekly by soaking the pot for 10 minutes, then draining. Avoid misting. Cut orchids: change water every 3 days and keep in a bright, warm spot.
